UPDATE, Feb. 7

Yes Great Shakes – Drill helps Midwest prepare for earthquakes

“Earthquakes in Illinois could be triggered by movement in either of two nearby fault systems. The New Madrid Seismic Zone is a 150-mile-long fault spanning five states: northeastern Arkansas, western Tennessee, western Kentucky, southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.

A second area, the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone, is located in southeastern Illinois and southwestern Indiana.

Both zones have produced powerful quakes in a magnitude of 7.1 or higher, and both areas remain active.

  1. Incoming
Sunspot AR1667 erupted this morning (Feb. 6th @ 00:21 UT), producing a double-peaked C9-class solar flare that lasted more than ten hours from beginning to end. The slowly-unfolding explosion also hurled two CMEs into space. The clouds are not heading directly for Earth, but they could deliver glancing blows to our planet’s magnetic field on Feb. 9-10.
And more on COMET LEMMON and Asteroid 2012 DA14 for Feb. 15 2013.

    • Yes, they will give galancing blows, and it is glorious. Without these infusions and intrusions, earth would not have a magnetosphere, and would shrink unto oblivion, so, all I can say, is ‘Gimme More!’

  2. Earthquake Location
    Magnitude 7.1 SANTA CRUZ ISLANDS
