Citizen Group Sues to Hold LDNR Accountable
Plaintiffs including the Louisiana Environmental Action Network (LEAN) and Save Lake Peigneur, Inc. filed a lawsuit in the 16th Judicial District Court of Louisiana against the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (LDNR), alleging that the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, Office of Coastal Management, violated the Louisiana Constitution and its own Guidelines by issuing a Coastal Use Permit (CUP) to Jefferson Island Storage & Hub, LLC (JISH), for a project to create two new natural gas storage caverns in the Jefferson Island salt dome underneath Lake Peigneur.
Next Friday, July 12 at 10AM our first hearing pertaining to the lawsuit will be held.

I can only assume that Jefferson Island Storage & Hub, LLC (JISH) has done a 3D geological survey of the saltdome, and would be in a position to answer the following questions –
1 Just how much water flowed from the lake into the saltdome, during the Lake Peignur disaster.
2 Just how much of the saltdome was damaged, and or dissolved by the water, and what is the extent of the resulting brine cavern.
3 Can Jefferson Island Storage & Hub, LLC (JISH) guarantee that creation of these caverns will not cause a repeat of the Lake Peignur disaster.
4 If the cavern resulting from the disaster is punctured, can they be certain that any pressure imbalance will not again allow water from the lake to once more flow into the saltdome. as it is highly improbable that the puncture site has become sealed.
5 If water from the lake is once more able to flow into and dissolve the salt, resulting in damage to the surface & property. Just what reparations are Jefferson Island Storage & Hub, LLC (JISH) prepared to make.
