10:45 a.m. Update from the Parish Blog

Did the tag flutter up there or is there no cavern anymore??

They remain at CODE 1 …. other announcement.

Texas Brine doesn’t have anything to say about all this but they did put out a fact-sheet about their swell berm road project.

Assumption Parish Police Jury

Texas Brine advised that the tagging of Cavern 3 (performed on Friday 1/31/2014), was at 3,645′ which is 9′ from the cavern roof. As information becomes available, it will be shared here.

I stop here if you like to see all of them keep going back with this for the tagging of Cavern 3.

  2. I hope I did this right.
In Aug 2013 the top of the cavern roof was 3650’ now there saying the cavern roof is 3654’.
That not much break down from the top of roof of the cavern I was thinking it would be more.

    4:15 p.m. Update
Texas Brine has reported to us that the Oxy 3 cavern hard tag was completed today and the cavern floor is currently at 4030’ , which is about 380′ below the cavern roof. This is a 95′ rise
from last week’s 4125’ tag. We will update everyone as information becomes available.

  3. Sounds like a rising and falling height thing going on. Has Texas Brine even suggested why this up/down action is happening? Have any professional geologists suggested what is ocurring? History shows from your collected comments that something..salt wall/ceiling/land material collapse (or fluid??)..is filling up cavern. And then..bingo..its gone. Remember the ‘tidal’ flow seen sometimes..its like a slowly leaking vessel draining out. Glug glug feeling here…or gulp gulp. Sure hope there is not a SUDDEN outflow..when the plug goes.
Seriously, I doubt ANY geologists expects this hole in the earth from Texas Brine to suddenly completely fill up and stop oozing in any human lifetime.

    • oh, and maddeningly, the APPJ says all the time “we’ll follow up” with update any time they mention a big rise or fall of the cavern floor. They NEVER HAVE ONCE done it.

  4. What ever is filling up the cavern is coming from around the area..the sides or the roof of the cavern. Has Texas Brine investigated enough to tell or SEE what the materials are? The ones filling up then emptying out! You can not make matter from nothing….its got to come from somewhere. So if coming from the sides of the saltdome..is the dome itself becoming undermined? Anyone doing any imaging? HELLLOOO…

Kind of reminds me of the kids game..you knock your self on the head..and say “I am a nut”…KNOCK KNOCK.

    • When they placed the rad waste (called NORM in documents) which seems to be contaminated dirt and possible dirt from underground nuke tests I think they mean dirt stored in steel drums. So 50 years later or so these are probably RUSTY drums riddled with holes if they are intact at all.
We only got a peek at this when there was that wildfire approached Los Alomos and the illegally dumped old rad waste barrels in the canyons were looked for (half hearted effort).
So is this cave-in at the cavern busting up these containers?
Who is tracing the radiological materials there?
Is the material outside the berm perimeter?
Sandia Labs and other nuke promoters have been there since the beginning… at least by teleconference.
They can start to do some hands on work now. Their product is loose and it theirs to CLEAN UP.

  5. Someone needs to drop down a few strong GPS transmitters..or some material which can be tracked as it migrates. And that NORM,isn’t it supposed to be inventoried prior to placement (drop into a hole)..and I would think verified its still there once and a while? What does the US government disposal contract say, I wonder? Bet there is an inventory requirement–which was in WRITING followed! On the barrels being the cause of collapse..nope..its much bigger than those few hundred or thousand barrels..much much bigger…

    • You can find most material about it on this blog by using search term ‘NORM’ (all caps) in the search bar. We have a lot.

  6. By inventory requirement I mentioned, most contracts would have XX items..and the receiver/disposer would verify they got XX items and placed them in a certain location under certain conditions as specified in the contract. Then the payment is made. Sounds good of course but verification is difficult to prove! If someone obtains the wording of the disposal contracts with Texas Brine or whomever did the dirty deeds..bingo. Some facts to work with. What is reported by the disposal company (what they got paid for) is the closest to truth at this late date. Bet Texas Brine hopes no one finds old contracts…..
