NY TimesMethane Is Discovered Seeping From Seafloor Off East Coast, Scientists Say

Scientists have discovered methane gas bubbling from the seafloor in an unexpected place: off the East Coast of the United States where the continental shelf meets the deeper Atlantic Ocean.
The methane is emanating from at least 570 locations, called seeps, from near Cape Hatteras, N.C., to the Georges Bank southeast of Nantucket, Mass.  . . .

  1. Here’s a screenshot I managed to grab from one of the cams in the area (They are heavily loaded and hard to get to play at the moment!)

It’s thought this could be steam from a fissure eruption, but this is unconfirmed at this stage.

  2. I remember these things.
AN ISLAND IS BORN Nov. 1963
    http://www.damninteresting.com/an-island-is-born/

And the Alaska earthquake 1964 it was felt as far away as Texas, Louisiana and Florida.
Damage was noted as far away as Louisiana, where waves swamped and sunk several fishing boats.
In Tennessee there was 1 to 2 foot wave at Norris Dan and the Oak Ridge plant earthquake recorders were knock offline.

    Louisiana is subsidence into sea
Is it from all the oil and gas there taking out of the ground ?

    • that 1964 quake had a good re-telling in an old issue of Nat’l Geographic.
The family of radio news guy Walter Thompson had their whole house slide down a hill (with them inside) … everyone safe after.

One thing I’ve never got about Fukushima is all this stuff about ‘cooling the reactors’, which we’ve heard non-stop since the start of the disaster. Surely, if a reactor has gone into meltdown, and the fuel core has reached temperatures of thousands of degrees, the last thing you’d do is introduce water to ‘cool it’? because of course there’d be a massive thermal explosion (which, I believe, was the biggest worry at Chernobyl).
I’m not sure what I can contribute to the comments section of this site, because there are people here who are much more knowledgable than me. Have I missed something with all this cooling water/thermal explosion stuff?

No one would address his question all they talk about was the ice wall that not working.

This is someone idea of making a Ice Ship in the 40’s name Pykrete.

  4. This is bull-crap what they’re doing
    What are they hiding ?
That California quake was at 10:20 UTC time
The timing all wrong for this quakes I seen the one for California it hit the Bayou Corne, La at UTC time at 10:27am. and settle back down.

But one more quake did not show up on any of their quake maps but it did not rightly start rocking the recorder tell about 10:36 UTC time.

That California quake was no more than 6 or 7 mi in the ground.

    • I figured it was the CA quake due to time difference of Pacific time.
      Right?
I was up early and saw the helicorder, then looked at USGS to see of anything happened.

  5. From Assumption Parish Police Jury update Aug 25, 2014
9:20 a.m. Reported Odor Being Investigated
Assumption OEP is currently investigating reports of a hydrocarbon-like odor in the Pierre Part community. This odor does not seem to be related to the sinkhole (no burp has taken place to produce such an odor). Updates will be provided accordingly regarding this situation.
