More than 2 years later, sinkhole evacuation eased

BAYOU CORNE — After more than two years, the mandatory evacuation order for people living near an Assumption Parish sinkhole has eased for some in the area.
The parish policy jury said Thursday that an area east of Grand Bayou along Highway 70 has been re-designated to a voluntary evacuation zone, rather than a mandatory one…

WAFB – Officials change part of evacuation area near sinkhole from mandatory to voluntary

” . . .  They added it is believed all of the gas has been removed from the area. They will continued to investigate and monitor the area to confirm that the gas is depleted. . . . “

The Watchers – Geophysicists challenge traditional theory underlying the origin of mid-plate volcanoes

” [scientists] look at how a layer beneath the Earth’s crust may be responsible for volcanic eruptions.
The discovery challenges conventional thought that volcanoes are caused when plates that make up the planet’s crust shift and release heat.
Instead of coming from deep within the interior of the planet, the responsibility is closer to the surface, about 80 kilometers to 200 kilometers deep — a layer above the Earth’s mantle, known as the asthenosphere.”

Friday – Lake FUBAR like Wed. x 2 … Indonesia Quake at Night Sloshes Lake FUBAR

Heli_ANIjumpy-piano

Everything is grumbling and rumbling down below. It is very visible even though the helicorders are set on micro-setting.  It looks like a cavern collapse or new area or wall collapse. Just a guess.

LA12 shows new fuzz effect x 2!

Wed. News

Heli_ANI

LA12 shows new fuzz effect. It seems the helicorders have some problems and the cavern has some problems and it looks like they are doing daytime work on the scene that shows on the helicorders. Never a dull moment all week at Lake FUBAR.
We still have no idea what is causing all this commotion on the monitors. Officials are mum.

Water Recedes + Gas Cap Big “If” + News

No wakes zone lifted – anchors away!

Texas Brine fact-sheet (dated June 5) – “At locations where we have ORWs that are still flowing the data suggests a significant reduction in gas cap thickness of 50% or greater from the initial CPT readings”

  Gas Cap vs Cap Rock

GAS CAP RELATED –

Wed. – Just posted to the Methane page, in the section on ‘oil industrythis interesting doc about exploiting oil rim reservoirs. A few things added to that section with items sent in by a reader.

From p. 4 :

GasCapExpansion

An inquiring reader sent this observation –

 Questioning the whole berm thing:

The O & G people couldn’t care less about keeping the sinkhole confined, in my estimation, so what would be the rationale for the berms for their profit bottom line? The so-called berms keep falling in, anyway. Do they want that to happen, but why exactly? Could this explain it?? That sand and gravel creates a gas cap, which then compresses the gas and makes it easier to withdraw the hydrocarbons. Could that be  why the gas cap discussion?

Fuel Fix – Deal may spur drilling in Mississippi, Louisiana

JACKSON, Miss. — A private equity firm will invest up to $400 million to support efforts by Houston-based Halcón Resources Corp to drill for oil on the 314,000 acres that Halcón has leased in the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale of southwest Mississippi and southeast Louisiana. . .
