Gulf Coast drinking water may be impacted by this Texas toxic waste plan

Altair hazardous waste landfill should be closely reviewed

By Phil Wilson LCRA General Manager The Bay City Tribune

” . .. The proposed location of the hazardous waste landfill is within the Chicot Aquifer, which is part of the larger Gulf Coast Aquifer. The Chicot Aquifer is used as a potential source of water for drinking water, livestock and irrigation purposes. There is a real potential for a possible hydraulic connection between the shallow aquifer at the proposed landfill site and the Colorado River. “

On Insurance Carried by Brine Industry

On the topic of insurance carried by Texas Brine for damages from their disaster at Bayou Corne we didn’t find anything specific. But we did find something of interest about Texas law and the brine industry insurance/assurance requirements. These documents have lots of interesting info –

TITLE 30. ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY
Part 1. TEXAS COMMISSION ON ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY
Chapter 37. FINANCIAL ASSURANCE
Subchapter X. FINANCIAL ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR BRINE EVAPORATION PITS
