Conservation efforts reversing groundwater depletion

“Louisiana has a rosier future concerning fresh water supplies, thanks in part to local efforts to conserve and reduce the strain on the Sparta aquifer.

National data compiled by USA Today show pockets of groundwater depletion across the United States, and Louisiana has its share of depletion over the last 20 years. Throughout the state, northeastern Louisiana had some of the heaviest depletion, centered in Lincoln, Ouachita and Union parishes.”

Jury awards $750K in damages from state to environmental whistleblower

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – Years ago, a state contractor exposed alleged corruption, then watched one business door after another suddenly close. A court ruling Monday said he was wronged.

It took five years to build a case, but a jury said Dan Collins is owed more than half a million dollars in damages he said were inflicted when he blew the whistle on a state-funded project that he believed violated laws.

It was in 2005 that the Department of Natural Resources dredged Bayou Pastillion in Iberia Parish as a part of the Atchafalaya Basin Project. The goal was to improve water quality for fishermen by removing sediment build up at the mouth of the bayou. . . .

The Atlantic Ocean circulation may already be slowing down. That’s not good.

YellowStn_Poster  There are strange west-coast events (volcano, L.A. quake) that are on the Yellowstone blog today.
There isn’t a direct connection to Yellowstone in the stories but maybe it it is connected somehow and it will come out later. And the Mich. quake this week is very out of the ordinary. It is mentioned in comments in the next post
(Tues. News).

Check the Yellowstone blog for updates on these events.

10 Earthquakes Rock North Texas In 25 Hours

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) – Ten earthquakes, three of them greater than a 3.0 in magnitude, rocked the DFW area on Tuesday afternoon and into early Wednesday, knocking items off of walls, causing cracks to appear in ceilings and generally rattling nerves across the region. . . .

Solar Storm Friday, Iceland Crater Unstable (?)

Solar Storms Sending Biggest Threats to Earth Today and Tomorrow

Global positioning system and radio transmissions may be degraded through tomorrow as two solar eruptions strike Earth and affect its magnetic field.

The U.S. Space Weather Prediction Center is tracking two two coronal mass ejections, “huge expulsions of magnetic field and plasma” that shot out of an area near the center of the sun’s disc.

“Essentially the sun just shot out a magnet and it is about to interact with another magnet, Earth’s magnet,” William Murtagh, program coordinator of the U.S. Space Weather Prediction Center, said yesterday. When the ejections reach Earth, they will touch off geomagnetic storms that are forecast to last at least until tomorrow. . . .

Will this solar storm affect helicords’ display? Will anyone provide backup observation (like going to Lake FUBAR and looking at it)?    heli_button

At 4 a.m. Lake FUBAR got the grumbles. we doubt it is cultural noise as  work doesn’t usually start there before sun up.

We should pay attention to the weather now as storms from the east close in. Extra rain means extra weight on fragile cavern walls in Lake FUBAR!

ICELAND –  “It Will Be Unlike Anything Ever Seen in Recorded History”

►”Scientists are now gravely concerned that the crater floor will soon collapse into a miles deep underground cavern filled with boiling white hot magma.

►”There’s 1 trillion gallons of water in the ice in Bardabunga crater.

►”When that falls into a lake of magma it will instantly flash into steam expanding 600 times in volume.

►”The magma, suddenly no longer contained by the crater floor and 1 trillion gallons of water will act like a shaken soft drink can when the top is popped.

“It will be an event unlike anything ever seen in recorded history.

Claimants say fire hurt health, property
“The company that owned and operated a chemical facility in Slaughter destroyed by a fire a year ago has filed for bankruptcy, which could complicate matters for the 32 East Feliciana Parish residents seeking damages for respiratory problems and diminished property values they attribute to the blaze.”

A reader  says, “Jefferson Island Storage & Hub, LLC is a Limited Liability Company and claims to be an Intrastate company, not an Interstate company. Who is their insurer? Shouldn’t the LA Dept. of Natural Resources make sure that these companies can cover any damage that they cause before issuing permits?

The Department of Natural Resources, Office of Coastal Management, has already issued one permit to expand and add 2 natural gas storage caverns to Jefferson Island Storage & Hub under Lake Peigneur in Vermilion/Iberia parishes without an Environmental Impact Statement, Federal standard, no seismic studies, bubbling in the lake, Chicot aquifer problems and already one horrific disaster there.

All they want to do is profit off the state and the people of Louisiana and not be responsible for their actions and the people they hurt.” and we agree!

The helicorders are still going crazy. Instead of posting that every day we will put up a big headline when it stops.  Scroll down for more on them and maps of where they are etc.
