  1. This was caused by the heavy rain fall and washing away of the tracks. Really heavy rain in Virginia yesterday.

    • Actually Keith, in this case it was more likely to be water-logged ground and a wall that was being slowly shaken apart by the passing of heavy rail traffic. This was more of a wall falling down than the ground opening up.

Lately if something falls over, or a hole that would give a rabbit claustrophobia opens up, the press scream SINKHOLE – Read all about it !!!

The word ‘sinkhole’ is quickly becoming a ‘buzzword’, so much so that most people will be so sick of hearing it, that they just tune-out and turn-over.

      • The sloughing ground story went along with JEC’s explaination of a downpour in the area. I was in a hurry and didn’t reply to his “comment” specifically.

    • I didn’t see sloshing at helis til after 2 a.m. so maybe it came over real slowly …. it showed on one of the LA10s

      • I think the Chile quake was at maximum range for that magnitude, where as the New Caledonia quake was at least 100+ times stronger, and was probably detectable anywhere on planet.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but it appears to me that your comments are specifically designed to lead people to the conclusion that what has occurred, with the collapse of the cavern in Bayou Corne was simply an act of nature and there is no liability on the part of Texas Brine or any others due to the fact that earthquakes from far away are causing seismic tremors at the BC site and that it has nothing to do with the fact that the cavern was mined too closely to the edge of the dome. Also, your comment about people becoming “so sick of hearing it”, referring to sinkholes, “that they just tune-out and turn-over” makes me question exactly why you read and comment here, as the name of this blog refers to sinkholes, attempting to appear concerned about what is occurring at this toxic site, when to me at least, it appears you are attempting to lead folks to the conclusion that it’s perfectly safe to store toxic anything underground in salt caverns and it’s not the fault of the corporations producing toxins for greed, the culprit for these toxins being released into our water, land and air is Mother Earth herself. I hope you have no children or grandchildren who are going to have to live on with these chemical and nuclear wastes stored in the Earth, because it’s due to your attitude and others like yours, we are experiencing all these cancers. And no matter how you protest that I have totally misinterpreted what you are writing, and that you are only looking out for the residents, sorry, I personally don’t buy it. People being sick of hearing about sinkholes….more like sinkholes appearing due to the sickness of people.

    • Mittensmitten, when this whole sinkhole situation was in its infant stages, david7426 was reporting on this Texas Brine induced catastrophe using google earth and excellent search skills. He, also, is concerned about how certain human activety is destroying this Earth. Since I have also been writting to this blog since the sinkhole’s infant stages, I’ve noticed david7426 speaks with sweet sarcasm just like Dana on youtube. Watch youtube’s beautifulgirlbydana’s sweet, sarcastic critisism of the Fukushika and WIPP man-made disasters.

    • oh, I should explain that when I made up this blog in Aug. 2012 the collapsed cavern idea wasn’t my theme yet. I finally figured it out later after I had already named the blog and lots of others had linked to articles etc.
I might confuse things with my far away quake reports all the time but I think (opinion only) the far away quakes are causing sloshing below at Lake FUBAR and that might make stress on the salt.
It could be unrelated entirely, same as far flung nat’l gas explosions.
I post all this stuff just to cover all the bases.
Texas Brine did cause the collapse.
They are too cheap to admit it and use their denial to hurt hapless home owners who want to sell out and get away.

      • FCF… I have a comment that just went ‘walk-about’, if you find it, please give it a saucer of milk and send it home… Thank you 😉

      • I found it.
        OK.
        Hope this thread is over.
It does cause some confusion having many topics on this blog … but I want everybody’s opinion to be able to be aired.
        Play nice, everyone.
Meanwhile, Mt. St. Helens is back in the news and I put it on the Yellowstone page (lower part)

Nature Runs Amok at Yellowstone < UPDATED

      • Fcf… There’s at least 1 or more of my comments in reply to Mittens that have wondered off too. If you could find them, I’d be grateful 🙂

      • my bad … they were sitting spam bin.
Now, on to Mt. St. Helens magma problems …

    • Fcf… I agree about the earthquakes causing the ‘sloshing’ in the Lake Fubar commemorative swimming pool.

Let’s see if I can explain it via an analogy ( Please note, I’m showing my ‘advanced’ age here, so be gentle with me 😉 )

Does anybody remember that scene in ‘Jurassic Park’ when they’re sitting in the cars in the dark, when the kid sees the water becoming agitated in the cup, for apparent reason.

Well, the agitated water, is caused by Tommy the TRex boogying down the road towards them. They couldn’t see or hear Tommy at first, but his mass striking the ground caused the vibrations that agitated the water.

Now it’s the same principle, with Tommy the TRex being replaced by Mega-masses of rock suddenly boogying below ground, and the cup being replaced by ‘Lake Fubar swimming pool for elderly politicians’.

My point being that just because you can’t see, hear or smell the cause, it doesn’t mean that it won’t have an effect.

I believe scientist call it the “Butterfly Effect”…

“If a butterfly breaks wind in the Algarve, does it cause Bobby Jindal to wake up and do his job ??” ( VERY loosely quoted 😉 ).

    • “Please correct me if I am wrong”

      Gladly my friend.

“it appears to me that your comments are specifically designed to lead people to the conclusion that what has occurred, with the collapse of the cavern in Bayou Corne was simply an act of nature…”

But it is an ‘act of nature Mittens… Human nature, the one where “greed, stupidity and hubris” rule the roost.

“…there is no liability on the part of Texas Brine or any others due to the fact that earthquakes from far away are causing seismic tremors at the BC site and that it has nothing to do with the fact that the cavern was mined too closely to the edge of the dome.”

There most definitely is liability on the part of Texas Brine and others. Companies like them cause untold damage both to the planet and to the lifeforms that exist upon it. However Mittens it is a liability that we collectively as a race, and as individuals share with them, because without us as a customer base, they would hardly have a reason to exist, but we also share liability because of our collective indifference and apathy.

    • “Also, your comment about people becoming “so sick of hearing it”, referring to sinkholes, “that they just tune-out and turn-over” makes me question exactly why you read and comment here…”

How many times Mittens, have you mentioned sinkholes to your relatives and friends, and watched their eyes glaze over, have them make a disparaging comment, or just plain change the subject.

We see sinkholes on the news, we hear them on the radio, we read them in the newspapers or online. In most cases the sinkholes reported are a real danger, though in one or two cases they turn out to be little wider than a drain pipe. My point Mittens was that most people will never see a sinkhole in person, and labelling everything as a sinkhole just gives people the impression that sinkholes cause everything under the sun.

The road collapse in the article that Keith mentioned, was in my view, just a collapsing wall that was fatigued by the vibrations of the traffic above, and the rail traffic that passed along side it, and when put under added pressure by the added weight of the rainwater just collapsed.

“…attempting to appear concerned about what is occurring at this toxic site, …”

Appearances are invariably deceptive… FYI I am concerned, very concerned, but you’ll have to take that on trust as we’ll never meet, you’ll never get to know or understand me, or where I stand on this or any other issue.

“…when to me at least, it appears you are attempting to lead folks to the conclusion that it’s perfectly safe to store toxic anything underground in salt caverns and it’s not the fault of the corporations producing toxins for greed, the culprit for these toxins being released into our water, land and air is Mother Earth herself.”

If I appear to be leading people it’s just because the majority of us are heading in the same direction, and be sheer luck ( bad or good ) I happen to be in front of them.

As for YOUR comment about placing TOXIC CRAP underground, that you tried to attribute to me… Don’t do that Mittens, don’t put words into my mouth, it’s NOT polite, and just causes ill-will between people. If I want to say something, I’LL say it / type it. How a person reacts to my comments us up to them, and is their responsibility.

Please NOTE:: At no time have I ever said that these events are caused by Gaia / the Earth / or little green men. And while there is definitely something ‘hincky’ going on with this planet, the events at Lake Fubar are definitely man-made, though it appears that events else where may well start to aggravate things.

      • Here it is in a nut shell there fresh water coming into the salt dome.
At the last Texas Brine meeting i think they were talking about that they found where it was coming from.
After putting very high pressure in Oxy 3A cavern there trying to reduced pressure in Oxy 3A cavern right now.

      • I wish they would get Crosstex to put a minimum of butane in their nearby cavern … instead of maximum!

    • “I hope you have no children or grandchildren who are going to have to live on with these chemical and nuclear wastes stored in the Earth, …”

      I have a son.

“…because it’s due to your attitude and others like yours, we are experiencing all these cancers.”

Thank you, It’s always nice to be appreciated for a job well done. But now, back to the real world…

I have lost more than a few relatives to Cancer and cancer related illnesses over the years. Father-in-law passed from a particularly nasty cancer 7 years ago, and now the wife is living with the possibility that she also has the same type as him.

“And no matter how you protest that I have totally misinterpreted what you are writing, …”

      I protest, I protest…

But seriously how you choose to interpret my words is entirely up to you, and thankfully completely beyond my control. Though, may I suggest that you’ll gain more from the experience if you refrained from conflating your own views with mine, and then passing them as mine.

“…and that you are only looking out for the residents, …”

Seriously, your finding fault with my caring about the possible fate of other people, and other forms of life… THAT IS SAD !!!

      “…sorry, I personally don’t buy it.”

Good, because I’m not selling it 😉

“People being sick of hearing about sinkholes….more like sinkholes appearing due to the sickness of people.”

Now your getting all mystical on me Mittens LOL 😀

  3. “…I hope you have no children or grandchildren who are going to have to live on with these chemical and nuclear wastes stored in the Earth, …”

I have a son, and I worry about him, and I also worry about every other living entity upon this planet.

“…because it’s due to your attitude and others like yours, we are experiencing all these cancers.”

Why thank you Mittens, it’s so nice to be appreciated for a job well done.

And now back to reality, I’m curious Mittens just how did you manage to read so much into so few words, especially as I never said, typed or even thought most of those things that you’ve attributed to me. Are you sure you’ve not confused me with somebody else.

FYI, my father-in-law died of cancer 7 years ago, my wife is currently going through a cancer scare at the moment, and I’ve lost more than a few relatives and friends to cancer and cancer related illnesses over the years.

“And no matter how you protest that I have totally misinterpreted what you are writing, and that you are only looking out for the residents…”

Now that’s a catch-all if ever I heard one… And yes, you have misinterpreted, conflated and confused what I typed, and what you erroneously believe I meant to type.

    “…sorry, I personally don’t buy it.”

That’s good to hear because I’m not selling it.

My replies to Mittens may well appear –

Out of order, lost, or just not appear at all…

This is because WordPress is a psychotic, evil, twisted and down right nasty piece of C**P !!! 😀

  4. Fcf… WordPress IS really beginning to P**S me off. I swear it’s shredding my posts, I’ve just repeated the last part of my reply to Mittens, and yet again it’s gone 😥
