Oklahoma Has 20 earthquakes in One Day < frack quakes
A little hiccup after 7:15 a.m. Saturday at Lake FUBAR. Then lots of fluid movement around 6 p.m. … LA12 shows it.
6.4 quake in Chile plus a lot of activity in Iceland. USGS live quake list.
Strange Sounds asks, “Did you experience rumbling noises and see strange blue light flashes in Mississippi on August 17” ? Reply to them if you did.
NOTE: Lake Peigneur has begun bubbling again. News and photos about it added to the Thurs. post. [Scroll down]
SUNDAY
At 6 A.M. Lake FUBAR shows huge activity on all the monitors. Is it from this shallow 6.0 California quake?
LA12 shows it –
The Watchers – Strong, shallow and extremely dangerous earthquake M6.0 hit San Francisco Bay Area, California
It knocked out electricity in Napa – LA Times report.
6:21 P.M. CST: Giant 6.9 quake in Peru
The USGS shows one big quake in Peru. RSOE shows three – 6.8, 7.0, 7.0.
Thanks to Walter for the tip – 😉
A half hour later the ANF map shows a 5.4 quake at the top of Canada in the NW Territory.
At 68.2358 N, -99.4608 W. But the USGS doesn’t have it.
NY Times – Methane Is Discovered Seeping From Seafloor Off East Coast, Scientists Say
Scientists have discovered methane gas bubbling from the seafloor in an unexpected place: off the East Coast of the United States where the continental shelf meets the deeper Atlantic Ocean.
The methane is emanating from at least 570 locations, called seeps, from near Cape Hatteras, N.C., to the Georges Bank southeast of Nantucket, Mass. . . .
The volcano in Iceland has started a minor eruption.

Battle stations, everybody!

Very minor fissure eruption at present.
Here’s a screenshot I managed to grab from one of the cams in the area (They are heavily loaded and hard to get to play at the moment!)
It’s thought this could be steam from a fissure eruption, but this is unconfirmed at this stage.
Here’s a GIF animation from the cameras: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/19310212/4qhoau6d.gif

I remember these things.
AN ISLAND IS BORN Nov. 1963
http://www.damninteresting.com/an-island-is-born/
And the Alaska earthquake 1964 it was felt as far away as Texas, Louisiana and Florida.
Damage was noted as far away as Louisiana, where waves swamped and sunk several fishing boats.
In Tennessee there was 1 to 2 foot wave at Norris Dan and the Oak Ridge plant earthquake recorders were knock offline.

1964 Quake: The Great Alaska Earthquake
Louisiana is subsidence into sea
Is it from all the oil and gas there taking out of the ground ?

Hurricane Sandy make its own Micro-earthquakes.
Hurricane Sandy Caused Seismic Waves To Shake U.S. Like An Earthquake
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/14/hurricane-sandy-seismic-waves-earthquake_n_2127289.html
that 1964 quake had a good re-telling in an old issue of Nat’l Geographic.
The family of radio news guy Walter Thompson had their whole house slide down a hill (with them inside) … everyone safe after.
OK, before above links go elsewhere they are a false alert, so I will remove the files.
http://www.mbl.is/frettir/innlent/2014/08/23/this_is_not_the_eruption/
hmmmmm ….
Sorry, to clarify – the volcano is erupting, but it’s currently under the glacier. The images were not steam.
OK.
I am putting the BBC update (code red) on the original post …

One thing I’ve never got about Fukushima is all this stuff about ‘cooling the reactors’, which we’ve heard non-stop since the start of the disaster. Surely, if a reactor has gone into meltdown, and the fuel core has reached temperatures of thousands of degrees, the last thing you’d do is introduce water to ‘cool it’? because of course there’d be a massive thermal explosion (which, I believe, was the biggest worry at Chernobyl).
I’m not sure what I can contribute to the comments section of this site, because there are people here who are much more knowledgable than me. Have I missed something with all this cooling water/thermal explosion stuff?
No one would address his question all they talk about was the ice wall that not working.
This is someone idea of making a Ice Ship in the 40’s name Pykrete.

Thanks, Walter.
I have the Fukushima news on the FC blog

Thanks Walter. That’s interesting. Need to look into it. Do you have the answer? Wasn’t there the explosion though?
There has just been a fairly significant 6.0 in California, just about around San Francisco bay area: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/nc72282711#shakemap
It has also triggered a Tsunami alert.
just saw that — posted
That one has the heilcorders ringing..big time!
All over the US there shaking
But I don’t think it was just that California quake a lot of the recorder across the US did not start tell 05:36 CDT time or 10:36 UTC time like in Virginia.

uh-oh ….
maybe some throbbing set off the CA quake and others ….
I don’t think it’s done yet.
How will Iceland react?
Radioactive Chat (on sidebar in Blogroll) has buoy map with live data ….
I didn’t know about the quake. I looked at USGS list after seeing the big ZING on the helis …. still going off down there.
* Mexico crack
*Chile quake
*CA quake
what next??
This is on the UK news. It’s like Bayou Corne without the water!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-28918105
oh.
BBC servers are down (!!!)
Maybe too much traffic or a hacker.
Maybe Iceland blew …. I’ll re-check later.
Iceland is still there. I think there servers were slow for some reason. Seem ok now.
This is bull-crap what they’re doing
What are they hiding ?
That California quake was at 10:20 UTC time
The timing all wrong for this quakes I seen the one for California it hit the Bayou Corne, La at UTC time at 10:27am. and settle back down.
But one more quake did not show up on any of their quake maps but it did not rightly start rocking the recorder tell about 10:36 UTC time.
That California quake was no more than 6 or 7 mi in the ground.

I figured it was the CA quake due to time difference of Pacific time.
Right?
I was up early and saw the helicorder, then looked at USGS to see of anything happened.
At the sinkhole
18:30 CDT or UTC time at 23:30 on Aug 24, 2014 this one was even felt on the LA-21 recorder.

Cripes!
Hey all 7:37 cst just had a huge boom in Jefferson County Missouri – loud and hard enough to shake the walls and windows of our house! Anyone have any ideas? Neighbors are freaking out.
No ideas … but do report it to strange sounds blog –
http://strangesounds.org/
New Madrid area is now getting hit by Mysterious booms.
Do they come before a earthquake or after ?
M3.0 – 12km NW of Harper, Kansas 2014-08-25 00:10:05 UTC
That 19:05 CDT time.
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/usb000s5y1#summary
Do booms come before or after? How about during? See:
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/learn/topics/booms.php
Above also mentions last major New Madrid earthquake – so time will tell
Let’s hope “cheer up things could be worse, so I cheered up and sure enough things got worse” does not apply!
Well, we fall into the New Madrid area, I think they can occur either before or after a quake and any where along the fault line. I would guess our area is about 130 miles from town of New Madrid that would put us almost a straight shot of 400miles to Harper Kansas. I was thinking of the earthquake booms when I posted here, thanks for the update.
Before, after or during. See:
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/learn/topics/booms.php
Let’s hope its the ‘No one knows for sure, but scientists speculate that these “booms” are probably small shallow earthquakes that are too small to be recorded, but large enough to be felt by people nearby.’
you can also do search under term “brontide event” to look for booms.
strangesounds.org tracks them.

I was looking for Sand Blows in Jefferson County, Missouri
What is Igneous rock or i should say Igneous Intrusion ?
Do a search for ‘Igneous Intrusion’
Click to access EQReport12-19-08.pdf
Do search on Youtube type in “New Madrid Sand Blows”.
thanks 🙂
A lot of fairly big quakes all over today!
Some big ones up in Alaska, near the Iceland volcano and lots of CA aftershocks. OK quakes getting bigger and bigger.
There is some interesting stats/links and conjecture at:
http://beforeitsnews.com/foreclosure-gate/2014/08/why-the-earthquake-near-san-francisco-is-just-the-start-of-the-shaking-in-california-2446348.html
regarding the Sunday California 6.1 earthquake.
That is my thought too!
that’s a scary vid!
A CNN article along the lines of it (California earthquake) might not be as ominous as you think.

9:20 a.m. Reported Odor Being Investigated
Assumption OEP is currently investigating reports of a hydrocarbon-like odor in the Pierre Part community. This odor does not seem to be related to the sinkhole (no burp has taken place to produce such an odor). Updates will be provided accordingly regarding this situation.
